Our field trip to the Mystic Aquarium was definately worth the three hour ride. There was a large variety of organisms: whales, sea lions, piranhas, reef fish, rays, sharks, eels, etc. My favorite part was the ray touch tank located near the beluga whale tank. I know most people would think I’m crazy, but I think the rays were cute. It’s hard to explain the feeling when you get to touch those magnificent creatures.

The species I was assigned to was the piranha, so I spent extra time looking at the piranha tank. It was an eerie feeling standing just a few inches away from these fish, but ever since I read the FAQ on the Mystic Aquarium website, I understand how amazing piranhas really are, and surprised at the fact that they aren’t agressive hunters. Looking at them closely, they really are pretty fish (besides their ominous red eyes).

When I got home, the first thing I told my parents was the sea lion show. I have always adored marine mammals, and anything related to seals I am automatically interested. I was amazed on how intelligent sea lions are, and I learened that they are used in the Navy. I’m sure I speak for everyone when I say that the sea lions had busted major moves during their show. Overall, I can’t think of anything to make this trip better; it was just so fantastic just the way it was.
